Mac's Education Fund

If you knew Marty Gilbert, you know what a loving, caring soul he was. And you probably knew Aaliyah McKenzie Coleman, the little girl he cared for more than anyone in the world. He probably introduced her as Mac -his pet name for her.

Mac is the 4 year old daughter of Kayla Simpson and Marvin Coleman, a young man Marty had been mentoring for the past 10 years, as a son. Marty truly loved and cared for Mac, and this little girl meant the world to him. She absolutely lit him up. He introduced her to Vacation Bible School and Sunday School at West End UMC and frequently took her to fun outings like Disney on Ice and feeding the ducks at the park. Little Mac has even helped Marty test mics before productions!

To honor Marty, you are invited to contribute to Mac’s future. This young girl faces a huge uphill battle, with very limited family funds, without Uncle Marty.  He would have loved her to grow up with the knowledge that so many friends are supporting her.  More than anything, he wanted to be help Mac, the love of his life!

Marty was an active member of the music and television industries in Nashville.   He started his career in Nashville as a videographer with Audio Video Arts documenting behind the scenes activities of the Oak Ridge Boys and learning all he could.  He later joined IATSE Local 46 as an audio and lighting stage hand for many television productions, concerts, and Broadway shows traveling through Nashville.   He worked onstage at many FanFairs throughout the 1980s & 90s under the guidance of Conrad Jones, main audio mixer at the Grand Ole’ Opry.  He worked on many live and taped productions for TNN before being hired as an Audio Maintenance Engineer for The Nashville Network in the mid 1990s. In the 2000’s he was often called in to assist the Engineering Department at CMT on many studio and edit bay construction, renovation and organizational projects.   He often volunteered to help non-profit organizations realize their AV needs at events.  Most of his work the last 4 years has been at West End UMC where he invested his energy rebuilding their 4th Story Theater with Kirk McNeal and later, as West End’s Multi-media Manager, helped with the upgrade of all their AV infrastructure.    Marty was on The Committee of the Audio Engineering Society in Nashville.
