Sky Academy Trip to Boston

Donation protected
Purpose of SOAR trip:

Part of the goal of SOAR (Success with Outstanding Academic Rigor) is to provide students with additional enrichment opportunities.  This planned trip will give students the opportunity to experience Boston and visit historically significant sites connected to the American Revolution.  Advanced curriculum is designed to enhance learning in a variety of ways and hands on experiences are a fantastic learning experience. Students in SOAR will bond during the two nights, three-day field trip and get to enjoy this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Following is just a brief description of what they will experience along the way:

Day 1 -

·       Walk the Freedom Trail, exploring historic events of the Revolutionary War time period.

·        Explore Boston Harbor and other sites around the city

·        Boston Red Sox Baseball Game vs. Colorado Rockies

Day 2 -

·        Lexington and Concord – Minute Man National Historic Park

·        "A Revolution begins - A Nation is born." Visit Minute Man National Historical Park where the opening battle of the Revolution is brought to life. Explore the battlefields and structures associated with April 19, 1775, and feel the American revolutionary spirit through the writings of the Concord authors. Continue on to Concord's North Bridge, site of “the shot heard ‘round the world.” See the famous Minute Man statue by Daniel Chester French. Also, on this tour is Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, the burial site of several famous Concordians, including Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Henry David Thoreau, Daniel Chester French, and Louisa May Alcott.

·        Harvard University and Bookstore - Visit Harvard University, a private Ivy League research university in Cambridge, Massachusetts, whose history, influence and wealth have made it one of the most prestigious universities in the world. Visiting the campus is a great way to get a feel for everyday life, meet current students, and explore Cambridge and Boston. The intangibles of the Harvard community, the atmosphere of Harvard Yard, and the warmth and excitement of the students are more easily experienced than described.

·        Bunker Hill Monument and Museum - Completed in June 2007, the museum houses all new exhibits on the Battle of Bunker Hill, the building of the Monument and the history of Charlestown.

Day 3 -

·        Explore the Salem Witch Museum

·       Visit the House of the Seven Gables - In 1668, merchant and ship-owner John Turner built a house on Salem Harbor that was destined to become one of America’s most beloved historic homes. Designated a National Historic Landmark District in 2007, The House of the Seven Gables is best known today as the setting of world-renowned American author Nathaniel Hawthorne’s 1851 novel.

·        Visit the Salem Witch Memorial

Cost to Students:

Total cost for the trip is going to be around $1100 per student depending on cost of flight on the day it is booked and the total number of students attending.  This includes:

Mackenzie is a well rounded student who excels in everything she does. She maintains a 3.8GPA in the SOAR program, remains on the A/B Honor Roll and was recently inducted into the National Junior Honor Society.  She is also active outside of the classroom while participating in volleyball and softball.  We would love to be able to send Mackenzie on the trip of a lifetime and your support is greatly appreciated!

In addition to this Go Fund Me page, Mackenzie has participated in other fundraisers such as a Color-Run and pasta sales to help alleviate the costs.
