Hello and happy 2021 everyone!
We can't believe it has been two years since we have updated this page! We are still so grateful for all the help and kind words everyone provided when we started this GoFundMe in 2018. Mackensie will be 5 years old in March and continues to be our rockstar living her best life. Despite her condition and constant trips to the doctors for check-ups (which often involve MRIs, IVs, blood draws, and anesthesia), Mackensie continues to be a brave girl who doesn't let her condition get in the way of growing up and enjoying life. Recently, Mackensie won her first beauty pageant!
As for her medical condition, the past two years have been relatively stable. The tumor on her brain has not grown, and as a result Mackensie has only had to have two MRIs each year. While the tumor is stable, Mackensie continues to deal with intense headaches and problems with her vision. This past October, doctors recommended eye surgery to correct the muscles in her left eye, but given the COVID-19 pandemic that has been postponed.
During her most recent MRI scan in December, the doctors discovered a few abnormalities. Mackensie has enlarged ventricles (fluid-filled cavities on the center of her brain) caused by a build up of fluid over time. The medical term for this fluid build up is hydrocephalus.
As a precautionary measure, doctors now recommend that she undergo another MRI in February and at this point is recommended Mackensie undergo an MRI every three months with sedation. We have been scheduled to meet with a neurosurgeon in a few weeks to discuss our options, and it possible surgery will be required to alleviate the fluid build up.
We feel so sorry for our little girl that this continues to be a problem and she will once again have to endure frequent doctor trips that involve invasive IVs and blood draws. But Mackensie is so brave and we know this will not stop her from living life to the fullest.
Once again we are so appreciative of everyone's support and felt this was a good time to provide an update of Mackensie's condition. We will try to keep this page updated once we have more definitive answers about our options for this most recent bump in the road.
