Macey’s Sweet Smile

Macey is 27 years old, she has Prader-Willi Syndrome. PWS is a rare disorder that is caused by a chromosome deficiency that effects the chromosome 15 which has a dilation in it. This results in physical and mentally delayed abilities. The main feature is feeling hungry all the time. The part of our brain that lets us know we are full doesn’t seem to work with PWS children. Some children can eat their self to a death if not monitored. Diabetes is also a factor along with dental issues. Such as, hypo plastic teeth which is the thinning of the enamel causing dental decay, and oral candidiasis that is a yeast/fungal infection on mucous membranes of the mouth causing thick sticky saliva.
Macey has to have all of her teeth removed. She has two dental insurances but it doesn’t pay anything near the cost of the implants that is required for Macey to have. I want it to be understood that she has to have implants versus dentures do to her PWS. This is not a choice.
We are reaching out through social media for help to fund Macey’s teeth. Macey has been through a lot through her years. She has accomplished many things we were told she would never do. Walk, talk, do things for herself. Eating, potty training,being able to communicate, these were all challenges in her life that we all take for granted with our “normal” children. I can go on and on about the things she has accomplished that we never thought she would, but I feel it’s important to focus on what is going on in her life now.
Macey had two dental surgeries in the past that has removed a total of 16 teeth already. The rest of her teeth are decaying at the gum line causing pain and making it difficult to eat. Macey needs her smile back. She has such a sweet smile.
It it does not matter what you give, it will be greatly appreciated. The only request we are asking is to please share this as many times as you can and to ask your friends to share also. The more people we reach out to the sooner Macey can get her smile back.
