MAC 300 miles in 36 hours virtual relay

Wow! It was an incredible weekend with the total so far at £6,467 - way beyond our original £1,000 target.  Thanks to all supporters, runners and friends who have donated to this great cause.  We've put together a video of the event  which sums up the great atmosphere from everyone involved. Do you want to join Matlock Athletic Club in helping Ashgate Hospicecare continue to provide high quality specialist care through the Covid-19 crisis?  Like us you  may not have been fully aware that they have suffered a serious decline in their funding due to the current Coronavirus lockdown affecting their charity shops and fundraising events. This is why we will be raising money to support them  by attempting to achieve a formidable total of 300 miles in a continuous 36 hour virtual relay over the weekend of 2nd and 3rd May 2020.

In excess of 50 club members have volunteered to take part in the relay, ranging from our talented juniors through to septugenarian veterans. They will be taking on the challenge by completing a 30 or 60 minute solo run. Each runner's distance achieved over their legs of the relay will be combined to produce the final total - which we aim to be over the 300 mile target.

We will of course be fully adhering to HM Government and PHE instructions on social distancing, taking physical activity, and avoiding all but essential travel.

Each runner will commence their leg of the relay from home, and as they complete the round the next runner sets off from their home - a virtual relay! To achieve the mileage total we have committed to, and for this to be a truly continuous relay, we will have runners pounding the streets through the night. This is a challenging target for Matlock Athletic Club to achieve, but we believe Ashgate Hospicecare is worth the effort and commitment we will be making through those 36 hours. They are in need of extra support through this most difficult and extreme time due to the Coronavirus crisis, so please donate to our fundraising effort.
