Please help me help my wife

I am asking for your help to raise money to give something back to the lady who gives her all to everyone else.

My wife Bella works in a care home, she looks after people day in and day out without complaint.  When she goes to work she takes a bag with nice smelling shampoos, hand creams, hair brush and hair dryer etc to be able to make some of the residents feel a little better. The care home that she works in is a private facility and so the resident’s family usually pay for their care. However, unless they get visitors (and a high proportion doesn’t) then they don’t get the finer things. Bella even takes bars or boxes of chocolates in, paid for out of her own pocket. I know it seems like little things but the little things mean a lot when you don’t get visits, birthday / Christmas cards etc and are just left in a care home. Thanks to people like my wife they are not forgotten about by everyone. This is what makes Bella’s situation worse because she should not be working, but she can’t leave those people that she cares about, so she struggles on in pain. So what happened? Please read on.

About 10 years ago, Bella suffered from a long illness that took it’s toll on her. The treatment was difficult but through it all, she continued to work full time and raise her young son while struggling with her health. Then, after the loss of her father, she spiralled into depression, which she still suffers from today.

Thankfully, Bella has recovered, but not long after she moved to the United Kingdom about 6 years ago she began to have pain in her hip, which gradually got worse. She was told that she would ultimately need a hip replacement, but she wanted to try other suggested treatments before having surgery because she was told that she was young for a hip replacement. She was still experiencing pain, but her specialist told her that she couldn’t have more frequent steroid injections because they could further deteriorate her hip.

She managed to delay the inevitable for over 5 years, but when she began to experience back pain and pain in her other hip, she agreed to move forward with the hip replacement. She was placed on a waiting list, but told that there would be a long wait. It has now been over a year. Now, due to Covid-19 the NHS cannot give any indication about when she will be able to have the surgery.

She leaves the house limping in the morning and wincing with pain, she comes home in tears, doses up on co-codamol to sleep, but still wakes up frequently due to pain. On her days off she spends most of her time in bed resting her hip. I work too, and although we would struggle a little she does not need to put herself through this every day, but as far as she is concerned she is still better off than the people she cares for because she gets to go home to a family that loves her. She tells me that she just can’t stop caring.

I am left feeling helpless, wishing that I could take away her pain so that she can continue to help others without damaging herself.

The money I am asking for will pay for a hip replacement operation for her which will be done privately. Once recovered she will be going back to work and doing what she loves to do so much. Hey, you never know, we may even be able to go for a walk together on her day off.
