Hello hello! I’m Morgan and I am a 19 year old transgender man preparing to go to university this September. Despite all the obstacles from 2020, I’m excited to start my life this year.
Since 2017, I’ve been transitioning. When I was getting started I knew it would be frustrating and long, but I didn’t expect to what degree. The first hurdle was learning that my city’s gender program had been put on hold entirely after seven months of waiting to hear news. I only got testosterone after stumbling upon a therapist who knew a nurse who knew a doctor that was able to prescribe testosterone. So by 2019, I was able to finally start my physical journey.
This past year, I’ve become increasingly more comfortable in my body. I am beginning to see how I might live my life happy with my body. I was relieved with every change that came to pass, but a major piece of my dysphoria still couldn’t change. My chest remains as a prominent source of discomfort. I have met every criteria to undergo a Double Incision mastectomy and, as of early December 2020, I was referred to a local plastic surgeon. However, when I called to check on my referral I was told of how long I could be expecting to wait for a consultation with the surgeon. While I knew that the waits were long I was not expecting to hear that I could be looking at up to 18 months just to see the surgeon. After the consult it could be even longer to receive the surgery. The only way to get in sooner is to go privately and pay myself. Because I am moving in a month or so to BC, I can get the surgery for $9,000. Since this is the case, I am deciding to go privately and pay.
I was hesitant to set this page up. However, with moving, going to university, and this surgery, I’ve been put in a position where I know I need support. I have $5000 in savings that I am putting towards this surgery, but the remaining amount eats into rent and tuition.
The money from this gofundme will go to covering what I can’t pay of the procedure cost. If there is any money that goes over the goal, it will go towards travel costs to appointments and the fee of the consultation ($150).
Thank you for reading and donating if you decide to do so :)
