SLATTERY FAMILY ALS FUND RAISER

Hello,
My name is Jamie Schiffer and I am trying to raise funds for a close friends family. Their names are Chip and Ellen Slattery.
In the fall of 2013 Ellen wasn't feeling well and went to her doctor for a check-up. Based on her symptoms he believed she had the onset of ALS. After several months of testing and the progression of the symptoms, the diognosis of ALS was confirmed in April of 2014. Since then, the disease has moved aggressively. Her middle daughter Megan was engaged and planned to wed in the Spring of 2015, but the wedding was moved up to October of last year based on Ellens rapidly deteriorating condition. Ellen made the wedding, but, by then was in a wheelchair having lost the use of all limbs. She is currently being fed through a feeding tube and is a quadriplegic. Chip has not worked since her diagnosis. He is her caregiver.

He has also had his share of medical misfortunes, currently recovering from a serious illness which required a ten day stay in the hospital last October as well as a recent diagnosis of Prostate Cancer.
Ellen's care is significant. They recently purchased a "Permobil M300" power wheelchair, (think of Stephen Hawking), that she can basically live in and are awaiting the computer to attach so that she can communicate. This is only a part of their growing debt. Although they have insurance it only covers so much and the bills are piling up.
The time has come for Chip and Ellens friends, family, community, and all others to lend a hand to a deserving family.
There has been a lot of support for them during this journey in their life and they are very thankful and appreciative of all that has been done for them.
I am in Law Enforcement and Chips brother Mike Slattery is also in Law Enforcement. There is a strong bond in this brotherhood and a willingness to help people out in this profession. I urge anyone in Law Enforcement that reads this story to spread it through their respective Departments and pull together one more time to show just how strong our bond is.
