Help Brian Beat Cancer!

Donation protected
Cancer isn't common in our family, so when my 33 year old brother Brian was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer that had spread to his liver, it was shocking and overwhelming, made worse by the knowledge that Brian doesn't have health insurance.

Those of you who know Brian know that he never stops going. We knew something was wrong when Brian began experiencing fatigue, dizziness and was more pale than normal (and he's a natural ginger! how much more pale can he get?). When he finally went to the doctor, they found that his blood counts were dangerously low and they gave him a blood transfusion. Next up was the long process to figure out what was wrong.

In July, 2017 Brian spent four days in the hospital undergoing tests. They found a mass on the inside and outside of his stomach and biopsied the tumor. After much waiting, we learned the stomach cancer had spread to his liver and that it's stage 4.

The good news is that the doctor is optimistic and there is a clear treatment plan for Brian's cancer. We also confirmed this week that it hasn't spread anywhere else. The oncologist and surgeon have agreed that Brian needs to take medication to shrink the tumor. He'll be on this medication anywhere from 3 months to a year. They will decide on surgery at a later stage but we do expect surgery at some point involving either a partial or whole removal of the stomach.

Brian is incredibly positive and upbeat. He tells me that cancer isn't something you want to have but it's kind of like a cold. I don't know about that but I do know that I am grateful for his positive spirit. Cancer isn't going to get my brother down. #BrianStrong

Brian is the father to seven year old Riley and is married to Destiny. Their family does not have health insurance and don't have the resources to pay the bills incurred to date or those to come. He's already received pushback from medical providers but his doctors have been tremendous advocates for him, ensuring he gets the treatment he needs regardless of his ability to pay.

Any help you can provide no matter how big or small would be a tremendous gift. If you can't make a donation, we ask for your prayers.

Donations will be used for Brian's stay in the hospital in July, for his various procedures and doctors visits he's had since that point and for future treatment.

Thank you for helping Brian beat cancer! #BrianStrong

Love,
Kristi (Brian's sister), his family and friends
