Lucy is a 12 week old Australian Shepherd. She woke up 8.15.18 not feeling well and I rushed her to the vet. We ran a blood test that showed very low WBC, RBC, HGB and NEU. Picture is attached for proof. 
She continued to go downhill so our vet suggested we take her to a specialist in case she needed a blood transfusion. After a day of tests and an overnight stay in the ICU, they have finally determined she has a severe bacterial infection with pleural effusion (fluid with bacteria surrounding her lungs and heart). This fluid is greatly impairing her breathing, so she has been in an oxygen chamber for the past 21 hours. The fluid has been invasively removed twice now by putting her under and using a needle to puncture her chest cavity. The first time the were able to safely remove 100 ml and the second time they removed almost double. Due to the amount of fluid, the next step is inserting a tube that will drain this fluid at all times so the risk of more bacteria entering is lessened and she does not have to be put under. Hopefully this will allow her to breathe better and be removed from the oxygen chamber. The vet said in best cases, this will take 2 days and worst case 3 in the ICU, where they will have constant monitoring, continued ivf, antibiotics, and pain medication.
We’ve been trying to pay for as much as we can and have already covered a lot of it, but the additional few days in the ICU will cost around $3,000. Anything helps, whether it be $5 or $100. We have money set back for emergencies like this but never imagined it would lead to where it has gone. Any additional funds will be put towards a non-profit organization to help animals in need.
