Hello, my name is Olivia. I would like to tell you about my brother, Stephen. Stephen is currently suffering from end-stage liver disease (non-alcohol related cirrhosis) and is in desperate need of a liver transplant. He is listed at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona and at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston, Texas. Stephen has been under the care of some amazing doctors and staff members at both hospitals and we thank God for opening doors for him to be listed at both Mayo Clinic and St. Luke’s.
A little background: we are a family of six (our parents and four kids) from New Mexico. Stephen is the oldest of the kids. He received a Bachelor’s degree from New Mexico State University. Stephen moved to Houston after graduation where he has lived his adult years. He is very artistic and has drawn some amazing pictures and has used his graphic design talent to design other fantastic projects on the computer for organizations/ ministries he supported. Stephen has always enjoyed sports and is a h-u-g-e fan of the Texans. While he has a lot of favorite players, J.J. Watt tops the list. Stephen enjoys volunteering and lent his hand to the Texans and various other organizations. He loves joking around and always has something funny to say. Stephen has two sons in their 20s.
Two years ago, Stephen went to the emergency room in extreme pain and after some tests, he was diagnosed with liver disease. He was able to manage the disease for a year, but last March, it became apparent that he would no longer be able to care for himself so we decided to relocate him to the family home in New Mexico. Our family has prior experience with liver disease. Our mother had the same mysterious illness. She was not eligible for a transplant because of her advanced age and she passed away in May 2010.
Due to Stephen’s condition, it is necessary for Stephen and my father to move to Phoenix or Houston while he waits for a donor, and then remain for 4-6 weeks post transplant care. Stephen has medical insurance but travelling to Phoenix and Houston has exhausted his resources. We are estimating short-term financial needs at $35,000.
Time is of the essence, as relocation needs to take place in the next two weeks. We are leaning on God's grace and goodness at this time and are grateful for your donation, as well as your prayers. Thank you!
