Help for Matt Williams!

We, the friends of Matt Williams, have set up this GoFundMe Account for him:

One of the strongest, most benevolent and warm-hearted people we know, aka “The Warrior.”  

Matt is fiercely loyal, perhaps to a fault. Not only is Matt the type to give you the shirt off his back, he’s the first to have your back in any situation. A music aficionado, a rock in his nuclear and extended families, and an invaluable asset to his friends. 

Unfortunately, as a result of a horrible set of unpreventable circumstances; Matt now needs our serious help.

Matt was recently scheduled for a preventive healthcare screening, an endoscopy/colonoscopy.  While it originally seemed that all went well, within approximately 6-8 hours post-operation, he was in excruciating pain, overwhelmed by sepsis and shock. It was determined that a near tennis ball sized perforation had occurred to the wall of his large intestine. Due to infection, substantial parts of multiple organs (including large intestine, small intestine, appendix, and related gastrointestinal tissue) had to be removed. 

As a result, Matt was in the hospital for nearly 2 weeks inpatient, and required additional surgeries during this time. In this sequence of terrible events, a malignant neuroendocrine tumor was detected early, and initially treated by doctors.
                                                                                                                                 
The aforementioned circumstances have taken a serious toll on Matt’s overall health, physically and mentally. His immune system remains highly compromised. His weight loss is beyond significant, and the overall physical trauma of surgery across his body has drastically impeded his mobility, placing limits on any social or work capacities.

His overall lung capacity is reduced by 50%, water retention has increased chances of pneumonia, and most significantly, he is now at high risk for Covid-19. Regaining his health and strength in the months ahead stands to be a daunting task, with regular therapy, rehabilitation, surgeon, and oncologist visits just a  minimum part of staying the course.

Those who know Matt well, know music has always been a mainstay, the passion that created for him successful collegiate and professional pathways through life. Most recently hired as an elementary school music teacher, COVID-19 impacted his employment just a week prior to this medical emergency, resulting in a loss of position and salary (with no severance) and overall benefits, including long term disability and accident indemnity payout. His health insurance and unemployment benefits are in outright jeopardy. The cost of rent, groceries, everyday living expenses and bills, and medical costs stack up with nearly nothing to cover even a fraction of it. 

Here is where you could be a blessing. While Matt would never want anyone to take care of everything, we know the type of help he needs in this situation. Therefore, we, his friends, are asking you help us raise funds to relieve immense stress and pressure; allowing this strong, beautiful, caring person to begin to heal and re-create a meaningful path forward in his life.
