Life is not always fair and as our family struggles to make sense of things I find myself in a desperate position to ask for help. I am doing so because my husband had a double lung transplant on February 2, 2013. He had a rare lung disease called Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis which is hardening of the lungs. Unfortunately, he has had complications ever since the transplant and has been in and out of the hospital for two years. We have had to travel from Las Vegas to USC in California for transplant and treatments/follow-ups. In the beginning it was every two weeks then it was every three weeks and then we got it down to about once a month. However, his condition worsened and he was air-lifted to USC three times with complications. Now he has been in the hospital continuously since the beginning of October.  He is on a respirator via a tracheostomy tube and now has stage three kidney disease due to the medications along with a number of other issues. His kidney disease will progress and he will eventually need dialysis. He cannot get out of bed because he is so weak due to lack of strength and malnourishment due to lack of appetite. It has been very difficult as he has not been able to work during this time.
My husband has always been the proud provider for our family. He adores our children and was always involved in their activities. It is difficult to see this once strong father become a shell of man. The picture above is two days post transplant and does not show his debilitating state.
No one ever expects something like this to happen nor are you ever prepared for the devastation medically, emotionally or financially. This uncertainty and the unimaginable debt was the furthest from our minds. At this point all we can do is pray and hope for the best.

In addition to my husbands medical issues we are also raising a daughter with Prader-Willi Syndrome who will need 24/7 adult supervision the rest of her life. She is a true joy and only wants her daddy to come home. Our adult son is at a loss as well, however, he has become the man of the house and is doing everything he can to help.

Unfortunately, I have exhausted all resources and the insurance only covers 80%. The medical bills are mounting and not to mention the other bills. This journey has been very difficult and quite humbling. We are asking for a donation of any size as everything helps. Having to ask for help was never something I thought I would have to do as we were always fortunate enough to be able to help others. The goal amount is just a number, of course our medical bills are much higher than that. Anything anyone can do would be greatly appreciated and we would be forever grateful.

Blessings,
To you and yours
