Internship in Washington DC!!!!

Hello, my name is Amanuel Mamo and I am asking for your help to attempt to achieve a goal in my life that has been restricted by money. Before I tell you why I need the money and what I'm using it for, let me tell you a little about myself.

I was born and raised in Ethiopia and came to America with my parents in search of a better life for me and my family. Although at the time I was very sad to leave my home, I know now that it was for the best. My parents sacrificed their comfortable lifestyle and careers to come to America and start over in order to provide the best education for my sister and I. I use their sacrifice as an inspiration to attempt to attain what seems unnatainable in the moment. I want to use the education that I have been provided to help people and I plan on doing so through law/politics, by using the influence and power they provide.

I have already began the path to making this goal a reality. I am currently attending Western Washington University and I am majoring in political science while minoring in psychology and possibly anthropology. I am also currently interning with a private attorney who is also a public  defender in the cities of Everson and Blaine. I believe in the bottom-up approach. By learning about the structural flaws in specific detail, I believe the answer for general structural problems can be realized.  Learning can't always happen in the classroom which brings me to what I plan on doing with the money I recieve.

Through out my time in college I have been seeking of ways to learn outside of the classroom. Finally, a door just opened recently when I got accepted into the D.C internship organization. The internship would be in D.C. for two months of the summer. During this time I would be taking courses at Gorge Mason University as well as interning. The interning aspect would consist of going to guest lectures, doing work for organizations and agencies in the area, professional development seminars, briefings at key Washington institutes etc. It is the most beneficial opportunity I have had in my life thus far for the goals I have set for myself. Unfortunately, I only recieved enough grants through scholarships to cover about a quarter of the total cost. I work and plan on using what I've saved up as well as the financial support from my parents to make this internship a relaity. Yet I still have a gap to close with the money.

There is a stigma about asking for help that I don't understand, we humans are one people we should help each other when we can. So if you have the ability to, please donate what ever you can in helping this dream come true. Every little bit counts! I promise that if I am able to capitalize on this opportunity I will make the best of it and learn as much as I can. Hopefully, I can use this experience as a tool to further my goal in helping people through political and legal avenues. Even if you are unable to donate, I hope my story inspires you to live your dreams even if they seem further than the stars. Thank You for taking the time to learn about my hopes and dreams.
