Mickey's Medical Fund: Brain Cancer

Donation protected
Kate and Mickey met right after college in June 2003. They fell in love and were married by August 2007. They then had beautiful twins, a girl named  Skylar and a boy named Nathan, in March 2014. They've made a great life together the last few years living in Robinsville, N.J. Kate works as a teacher in Old Bridge, and Mickey runs his own DJ Company and has worked for radio Disney with the schools.

At the end of January 2017, Mickey began to feel dizzy and naseous and began vommitting several times a week. He went to numerous doctors for bloodwork and exams over the course of the next two months to try to find out what was wrong. In the middle of March, after seeing gastro doctors and an ENT, Mickey was sent for an MRI to check for vertigo. He soon learned that he had a brain tumor.

With almost no warning, Mickey was thrown into the process of removing the tumor. He went in that same week for brain surgery, unsure at the time if it was a benign or cancerous tumor and if doctors would be able to remove it. Thankfully, the doctors were able to remove the entire tumor, but he was diagnosed with a rare brain cancer called medulloblastoma which is most common in children and found in less than 2% of adults. Since his operation, Mickey was in the ICU for a week and then went to rehab for two and a half weeks to regain balance and brain functioning, receiving PT, OT and speech therapy. Once home, he continued with therapy and began his grueling DAILY radiation proton therapy which lasts 30 days. He is currently in his last week of radiation. However, this is a fast-growing cancer that often recurs and doctors are treating Mickey very aggressively. He still has to undergo an entire YEAR of chemotherapy to give him the best odds for keeping the cancer from returning, and seeing his children grow up.

As you can imagine, medical costs are skyrocketing and Mickey is unable to work or watch the kids . Mickey was the primary caretaker for the kids during business hours before tragedy struck. Kate is working full-time as a teacher to provide for her family and struggling for childcare for their two, three-year old twins.

We are raising money to help cover the cost of childcare and medical needs during this difficult time. Kate and Mickey are two of the kindest people you will ever meet. I have had the privilege of knowing Kate and calling her my best friend since grammar school. I've known Mickey since they met and you can't find a better guy. These are two individuals who give their time to educate children and now find themselves needing your help to provide for theirs. Please donate anything you can! #MedicalForMickey
