MacKenzie's Summer Dance Experience

Donation protected
Hi Everyone!

My name is MacKenzie and I am a 13-year-old from Chicago with really big dreams to become an amazing dancer [Check me out on Dance MacKenzie Dance ]. I have been dancing since I was 3 years old and am currently a member of the Wendy City Dancers Competitive Dance Team – a membership I’ve maintained for the past 8 years.  In 2012 my dance studio recognized me as the Student of the Year and this year they have given me an opportunity to serve as a teacher assistant in the dance classes for the 3-5 year old students.  I am a member of the Praise Dance Ministry at my Church where I also sing in the choir, attend Sunday School and serve as President of the Youth Nurses Ministry.  At school I am a member of the Chorus and a special music group named the Do Re Mi’s.   As you can tell, I am pretty involved in a number of things but dancing has always been my true passion.

I was recently offered a wonderful opportunity to study dance at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy in Los Angeles this summer, and I need your help.

I learned that the legendary Debbie Allen, a phenomenal dancer, choreographer, producer and director, would be holding auditions for her four-week Summer Intensive Program at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy and despite a major snowstorm in Chicago that day, I was determined to attend. For those of you who don’t know, Ms. Allen has produced and directed some of the biggest titles in film and television over the last 30 years, including the motion picture film Amistad, as well as a long list of television shows such as A Different World, Girlfriends, All of Us, Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy. But most importantly, she has always been passionate about the craft of dance, and she has made it possible for so many young dancers, like myself, to find their place in the industry.

On February 1, Ms. Allen and her team conducted the auditions for the summer program, and to say I was nervous would be an understatement!  The entire audition process was both challenging and rewarding all at the same time. There had to be at least 75 or more dancers participating in the audition. But after a 2-hour intensive workout during the audition, I was one of a select few dancers to be chosen for this amazing experience!

Although I am extremely grateful for this opportunity, it does not come without a “price tag.” My mother and I are responsible for my living expenses throughout my four-week stay in California. These expenses include tuition, room and board on the California State University campus, transportation to and from the academy, etc. This is where I need your help.

Dancing is my passion and I truly give it my all.  Your assistance in helping me reach my goal and live my dream by receiving instruction from Debbie Allen would mean the world to me.  Attending the Debbie Allen Summer Intensive is like a dream to me . . . please help me make my dream come true.

Every dollar helps! From the bottom of my heart, I thank you in advance for your contribution and I promise to make you proud.
