Nuestro Ideal is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission it is to contribute, promote and develop innovative ideas for the cultural, educational, and economic enrichment of the people of Latin America throughout the western hemisphere. Members of Nuestro Ideal pursue our mission through nonpartisan, nonpolitical and independent not-for-profit action.
In September of 2017 hurricane Irma and Maria passed over the Caribbean causing billions in untold damage. The impact to Puerto Rico is especially worrisome. an island of over 3.5 million inhabitants was left without electricity. The destruction from the hurricane affected the island’s government services, Communications, and search and rescue efforts. The people of Puerto Rico have been left without drinkable water. The cost of the damage in property and human lives is still being tallied.
Our organization has synchronized with local leadership and grassroots organizations on the island to evaluate the needs and provide them with available resources. Nuestro Ideal will be departing to Puerto Rico to establish two “Comedores Sociales” with the assistance of the local community, near the central part of the island-Orocovis and another in Yauco. These sites were chosen strategically, since it will enable us to reach many surrounding communities, most of whom have been destroyed after being hit by both hurricanes Irma and Maria.
In Puerto Rico, Nuestro ideal is being assisted by executive chef, Bryan Lopez Figueroa, chef Bryan has worked in several restaurants along the island such as Red Baron, Hacienda el Jibarito and Dom Pepe, where he created a menu and served thousands of people. With the help of local volunteers our project will be able to feed over a 1000 people a day. Over 80 local volunteers have joined us and will assit us in serving and delivering meals to the elderly and those who cannot make it out due to illness. While working with the local community we intend to buy our produce from local farmers to help restore the area’s economy. We are also surveying viable farmland which will be used as a sustainable source for the community kitchens
We are seeking your help today; we will be collecting all forms of contributions in the form of monetary donations, material, and equipment, as well as volunteer work.
