Elliott's Diabetic Alert Dog Fund

Donation protected

On July 14th 2009, only months before our 4th son turned 10, Elliott went into the hospital for 7 of the longest days of our lives, suffering from diabetic ketoacidosis, and was diagnosed with Type 1 (insulin dependent) Diabetes....Type 1 diabetes is a life long incurable chronic disease caused by an auto immune deficiency (over active immune system)...Elliott's own immune system fought against his insulin producing cells (within the pancreas), causing him to become insulin dependent for the rest of his life.
Elliott is 16 now, and with the daily challenges of high school life, controlling lows and highs of blood sugars, finger pricks, insulin adjustments,  doctor appointmens, absents from school, make up work on top of regular work,  after school band practices, week long band trips, sleep overs with friends...etc..sometimes its hard for Elliott to feel or to let someone know when his blood sugar is low, or even dangerously high..
Type 1 diabetics could also have dangerously Low or high blood sugars during sleep ,  undetected...which could lead to unconsciousness, coma, or death, OR too high, could also lead to complications if prolonged...
We are looking towards raising funds to be able to have a dog trained as a Diabetic Alert Dog  for Elliott...This diabetic alert dog will be trained to detect and alert Elliott, (or someone close by Elliott) when his blood sugar STARTS to go low or high....this will provide him with 24/7 security, as well as a sense of confidence, independence, AND companionship, (not only for Elliott but also for his family)...the training for these dogs for diabetes are very costly and can run anywhere from $15,000 to 25,000. Medical insurance does not pay for these things. So we are fundraising and accepting donations to help with the cost of training and travel,(closest is in Jasper, Texas)...If you are able to help out with donations , prayers,

sharing this story with others or possibly all three...we would be so great full and appreciative.....
We are fighting along side our son...and until there is a cure....there is a Diabetic Alert Dog......
Thanks so much,
The Trahans,

Tyler, Evin, Trey, and Elliott...
