Hello, my name is Shawn and I am a 41 year old single father of two young ladies. My daugthers are 15 & 12 years old, and they are my absolute EVERYTHING!!!! I lost my wife, the girls mom, to cancer 11 years ago. So it has been just the girls and I over the last several years. I was diagnosed last April with CIDP. This is a neurologic disorder that erodes the function of my nerves. First affecting the core, then the lower body (legs) and now into my arms. I have become totally disabled over the last 9 months. I have been taught how to live and function in a wheelchair. I am back home now after an extended stay at the hospital in the physical rehab and now trying to adjust to this new lifestyle.
My home needs many modifications, and I have plenty of medical bills. But the most desperate thing I need is a wheelchair van. I obviously need the vehicle to get to and from doctors appointments, but most important to me is the ability to get out to my daughters activities! Weather it be sporting events they participate in or school activities they perform in, or simply trying to take them to the store or appointments. The most important thing to me thru all this has been that I do not want my girls to suffer or miss out on their lives because of this awful disorder I am dealing with!!! They have lost enough already.
As anyone who knows me can tell you, I am not good at asking for help. I prefer to do for myself and take care of my needs myself. But I need this help more for my girls than for myself, So I am asking for this because I want and need to be there for them as best as I can.
