Home Repairs and Happy Cats

I’d like you all to meet Jesus. There’s nothing wrong with Jesus, per se, other than being a bit on the derpy side, but this is a picture of her just for you. No obligations, no hidden fees, just one free picture of a cat for the people of the internet.

However, Jesus lives in a house, along with her three cat siblings and one very patient dog, with Joe, Faust, James, and Sandra— no relation to each other but a closer family you would be hard pressed to find. They are caring, hard-working people who never miss an opportunity to open their door for a friend in need, as they have done for me time and time again. They are much less likely to ask for help for themselves, so here I am.

Joe, the de facto head of household and actual homeowner, has muscular dystrophy. He is ahead of the curve for his age and condition, but has, in recent years, undergone three major knee surgeries and on good days walks with the help of shoe inserts and leg braces. He is also trying to finish his Bachelor’s degree alongside working a job where he’s standing for most of his 45-50 hour work weeks. And his home, which brings comfort to so many, is falling apart.

When he bought the house eight years ago, Joe did so in part because he was largely helping to support his roommates, including a fourth at the time with one more cat, and it was one of the few that met the needs of the whole clan. It was, however, a “bit of a fixer-upper,” which loosely translated to “needs new paint, new carpet, a week’s worth of cleaning and trash removal, and a landscaper.” Joe saw in this deal only potential. What he didn’t also see was the leaky roof that would develop in a few years’ time or the air conditioning unit that had been cut off from parts of the house, or the fuse box that wasn’t geared to take the load.

Well there’s newer paint on the walls and the trash was removed, but as life happened the carpet, the yard, the a/c, the fuse panel upgrade, and most importantly the roof repair didn’t. Joe and his roommates, as always, are trying to find a way to get everything taken care of, but, frankly, the cats and I are starting to worry.

Any help you can bring them will be amazing. In a perfect world I’d find a way to solve all of their problems, but I’m sure they’d be blown away with just a patch for the roof.

And I will personally guarantee you more pictures of Jesus and her siblings to thank you for helping keep them dry and warm as well.
