Sean's Fight For Life

Donation protected
My name is Shanda, and this is my son's story.

Sean has always wanted to make a difference in the world, to serve others and leave his mark. He decided to join the Army in 2013, and train to be a specialist in the Army Intelligence field. He entered the Army as a Private 1st Class in December of 2013.  He was looking forward to the training, to going Airborne, traveling and serving our nation.  But that didn't happen. In the 2nd week of boot camp, Sean caught the flu.  Which quickly turned to pneumonia. After he passed out standing in formation, he was quickly transportated to a local hospital. There, in the emergency room the doctors delieved the news. Sean has Leukemia.

CML or Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia. That day, January 2nd, 2014, changed everything.

Sean spent 3 month in the hospital. He was released from the Army, without any benefits, and came home to begin fighting. Sean, along with the great team of doctors at Stephenson Cancer Center in Oklahoma City, has spent the last year trying the best chemotherapy drug availible for CML.  The side effects from these drugs are horrible: pain, fatigue, and nausea. But Sean kept looking on the bright side, returned to collage and was determined to beat cancer.

This last December, on the day before Christmas, we got the call that Sean was not going to go into remission. That Sean would need a Bone Marrow Transplant to save his life. He has been ran through the Bone Marrow Registry, and so far no match has been found.

Through all of this Sean has remained steady in his faith in God, that all things work for the good of those who love the Lord. Even if we don't understand what that good is. He still wants to make a difference in the world and hope to be an example of faith and hope to others going through hard times.

As we wait to find a match, we are trying to raise awareness of the need for Bone Marrow Donors.

Sean is unable to work. As his mom, all of his Medical bills and living expense has fallen on me. Sean, his sister Heather and I live on my paycheck alone.  We have been blessed with help from some of our family and our church. But the medical bills are stacking up.  Any dontations given will go to fund Sean's continued medical bills and help me be able to care for him.

But more than that, I hope that everyone who reads this will consider becoming a Bone Marrow Donor. There are many websites that you can search to sign up. The only thing that will save my son's life is the right match.
