James Moore Memorial Scholarship

At 12.20am December 29th, 2014, my brother James Moore was returning home from a day trip down the southern coast of Australia when a man travelling in the other direction collided with my brother's car, killing my brother and his friend instantly and badly injuring two more of his friends. The other driver survived and has been charged with manslaughter, and will be facing court in the future.
My brother loved palaeontology, and at the age of 24 he had devoted much of his university and work life to it. The trip down the coast was to look at camping and boat launching sites in preparation for a dig with myself, my father and Dr Aaron Camens from the Flinders University Palaeontology laboratory where James worked.
Because of his love for palaeontology, we can not think of a better way to ensure that James lives on than passing this passion on to future generations. In conjunction with Associate Professor Gavin Prideaux, James' mentor and employer at the Flinders University Palaeontology lab, we are starting a scholarship in James' name. The scholarship will be aimed senior high school students, primarily from a rural area, to participate in a dig (location to be decided from year to year), then participate in laboratory preparation and processing of the samples.
