Will's Volunteer Trip-Tanzania

My name is Will Sanders, I am a 16 year old Sophomore in high school and I've been trying to find a way to give back and experience more than what's within my community. This summer, I’ll be traveling to Tanzania, Africa through a program called Global Leadership Adventures (GLA). On this trip I, along with about 15 other kids my age, will spend three weeks as a GLA volunteer. I’ll have the opportunity to improve facilities at a village school from refurbishing a classroom to building a playground. I’ll form real relationships with the local children providing English tutoring and playing games with them. I'll be learning about Tanzania’s rich culture, experiencing the traditions of the Chagga people who live around Mount Kilimanjaro, including visits to their coffee farms and banana plantations. I'll also learn about and meet members of the Maasai nomadic tribes. Although English is widely spoken, I'll learn to speak some Swahili, hear from guest speakers about social issues facing the community, such as the HIV/AIDS epidemic and the history of East Africa, and even participate in art workshops such as batik and traditional music.

This will be an experience of a lifetime and I'm now trying to raise money for my trip. If you are interested and able.....anything helps.
