Lyon College Scottish Heritage Marathon Challenge

Tax deductible
In 2018, Lyon College established the Saltire Award, to honor one student annually who best represents the values of Scottish Heritage. Dr. Mark Wallace, Professor of History and Celtic Studies, has issued a challenge - if we can raise $3,000 to endow this award to provide a cash prize annually to the college student recipient, he will give $1 to the fund for every mile he runs in preparation for his marathon in Edinburgh, Scotland on May 26th, plus $1 for each mile of the marathon itself - nearly $400 from him personally!

The marathon will take place at the end of the 2019 Nichols Trip to Scotland, an annual opportunity to help Lyon students experience the world, and represent the ideals of Lyon College:  critical, creative thought; ethical & spiritual growth; personal and professional lives committed to lifelong learning & service.

Details of the Saltire Award:
1) Must be a Graduating Senior
2) Minimum overall GPA of 3.5
3) Demonstrated service to Lyon
4) Demonstrated service to community

Help us meet this challenge, support our students, and honor our cherished Scottish Heritage at Lyon College! Give today to support this great program!

From Dr. Wallace: "I am running the race to 1) raise awareness for the Celtic Studies Minor and the Scottish Heritage Program at Lyon, 2) raise money for the Saltire Award, and 3) because I enjoy running!"
