First, I must say how much I dislike having to ask people for money however since November 2014 I have been unable to work. In November I had a fusion surgery done on my lower back, shortly after I started to have neurological issues. Right before Christmas my legs began to weaken and it was thought that I had a stroke, after 2 brain MRI's it was determined I had not. Since then I have deteriorated rapidly, as I can only walk with a cane and bilateral braces. A wheel chair is necessary for longer periods of time. My arms have also lost their strength to the point where I need to use both hands to hold something as light as a coffee cup. My motor skills are affected in that I can't use my upper and lower limbs at the same time. My speech and short term memory have also been affected. Aside from weakness and loss of strength I am starting to experience a significant amont of pain as well.
I have seen four specialists, Neurology, Rheumatology, Neurophysiology, and Orthopedic Spine. After many tests and a three week inpatient stay these specialists have been unable to define and diagnose what is wrong with me. In their eyes I am in evaluation only phase and my level of function is the best it can be per them. However I know this is not the best "me" because as recently as a year ago I was a high functioning woman, working two jobs, and participating in all types of activities (running, biking, etc).
Due to not having a diagnoses, I am not receiving treatment, without treatment I am just getting worse. I have been referred to and accepted by Mayo Clinic- Rochester, Minnesota (the #1 neurological hospital in the country), however I have to pay for the trip out of pocket. With not working and having many unpaid medical bills it will be very difficult to make this trip without help.
Since I cannot drive, my daughter will be taking unpaid days from work to transport me to the facility. Mayo Clinic has told me it will be 5-7 business days to complete all testing, therefore I will need to pay to stay in a hotel on top of travel and food expenses throughout my stay.
Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated, because I would really like to get back to some sense of normalcy. My appointment is September 29th (as they gave me a priority appointment). Thank you in advance to everyone!!
