Lynn Brown - Giving a Leg Up to Equestrians

For Lynn Browns memory to live on and inspire others

Lynn Brown was a selfless contributor to our horse community and we are honoring her with mounting blocks in Griffith Park. An avid rider herself, she for decades fought for the equestrian in Los Angeles, making our world safer, more fun and always inclusive.

From trail riders in her beloved Griffith Park to jumpers in the Equestrian Center arenas to backyard ponies walking the Perimeter trail, she looked out for us all until her passing on New Years Day.

In 2005 Lynn became a member of the Griffith Park Working Group which established A Vision for Griffith Park, Urban Wilderness Identity championing the Park for its unstructured aesthetic and continued emphasis on the wilderness values as exemplified by equestrian uses in the park.

Lynn supported equestrian causes from Gymborees and Corral 38 to Christmas caroling. February 2009 Lynn worked with the late Councilman Tom LaBonge to create the Los Angeles Equestrian Advisory Committee representing equestrians from all Council districts representing all who shared a common love for horseback riding from Griffith Park to the Compton Cowboys and Will Rogers to Sun Valley.  She served on that board until her death, protecting us from bad developers and championing good ones, keeping our trails in order and advocating for horses every day with city and state agencies.

To honor this amazing woman, we are raising money to put large concrete mounting blocks in Griffith Park with a plaque dedicated to Lynn’s memory. To a non-horse person, a mounting block might sound like a funny memorial. As a rider who gets on and off her horses at Martinez every week, I can't think of a better way to honor a woman who gave so much to us all than to let her memory give us a "leg up" when we ride.

If we can raise enough money, we can put several blocks in the smaller parts of Griffith Park serving Glendale and Burbank riders such as Easter Field and Pollywog Park and support other horse initiatives around the park. We have received a unanimous approval vote from the Griffith Park Advisory Board to install these first three mounting blocks.

Please give generously to support the memory of a woman who gave so much to all of us, Lynn Brown.
