Lynn Kinsman - Fight with Rare Cancer

Hi, that's my beautiful friend Lynn, her dear husband Aaron, and her amazing daughter Arabella during happier times. Aaron was diagnosed with a rare bile duct cancer (Cholangiocarcinoma) that resisted treatment and tragically took his life a year later in 2016. Lynn and Arabella’s lives were turned upside down after this devastating loss, but they were on a path to healing with much love and support from friends and family.

Just after Lynn’s 50th Birthday at the end of May 2021, she experienced some sharp abdominal pain. After visiting the hospital, with a short stay and many tests, Lynn was told that she too had Cholangiocarcinoma, the same rare bile duct cancer that Aaron died of just five years earlier. Words cannot describe how this diagnosis has devastated their family.

After her surgery in June 2021 and completing six rounds of chemotherapy, her CT scan in December showed no evidence of disease. This changed, however, in January 2022, when blood work revealed her tumour markers were up, and, after further testing, Lynn was told her cancer was now Stage IV.

Lynn has done two different chemotherapies, both unsuccessful at stabilizing or managing the cancer. These are the readily available treatment options in Canada. However, Lynn is being moved to a new treatment that is now being covered by the manufacturer. This was amazing news she received yesterday (28 March 2022). Lynn needs help though; she is currently working part-time with much difficulty, and she doesn’t have private benefits. She is trying everything (working with a naturopath and changing up her diet with the advice of dieticians) to help extend her life beyond the current expectation to give Arabella a chance to grow up with her mom.
