Lynbrook Field Study - Williamsburg

The fantastic fourth graders of Lynbrook Elementary School will be taking their annual field study to Williamsburg, VA in the spring. All year long we will be studying the history of Virginia with a main portion of the curriculum pertaining to colonial Virginia.  A trip to Williamsburg would offer a great opportunity for our students to interact with a living museum that explains in detail life during colonial times.  This first-hand experience would build our students' background knowledge of colonial times and make learning more meaningful. We also hope this insight will better prepare us for when we take our state-wide SOL (standard of Learning) exam in the spring. 

This field study to Williamsburg is particularly important for our students who are predominantly English Language Learners and live in a low-income community. Many of our students have not had many experiences outside of their immediate community. Lynbrook Elementary is a Title 1 school with over 85% of our students receiving free or reduced meals. We do not have a PTA this year which means there is no funding to provide our students with field trips. 

The cost for the trip is  roughly $50 per student with 90 students in the fourth grade. The cost of the trip covers bus transportation, lunch, snacks, and a daily entrance fee that allows entry into exhibits and presentations. With your help we are trying to bring the cost of the trip down as low as possible. Any donation will be greatly appreciated.
