We are now nearly six months on from mum's accident and as a family we would like to share some more information.
Mum has got a life changing injury to her spinal cord and will spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair and it is very unlikely that she will be able to move her legs and has been given a 2 to 8 % chance of ever walking again. Mum has gained some movement in her arms and hands but no movement in her in fingers. Mum is having intense physio everyday which leaves her exhausted, but in true mum fashion she is giving her all working hard and staying positive just to do everyday things we all take for granted.
As we look forward we are met with new challenges, mum and dad's house will need to be extended to accommodate mums needs, doorways widened to allow access for her wheelchair, a wet room and bedroom that will need space for a hospital bed and hoist as well as giving carers the space to work safely whilst caring for mum. Due to mums age she is not entitled to a motability car so to be able to get mum to appointments and out and about we are going to have to purchase a suitable vehicle privately
