I am a recovering Chronic Lyme Disease patient. After 7+ long years of doctor/hospital visits and treatments, I am almost 100% and am ready to start helping others with this Horrible Illness. Lyme takes a huge toll physically, emotionally, spiritually and financially. Lives can be devastated by this.
Long term treatment can be very expensive and I would like to start a fund to help patients pay for treatment. Most Insurance Companies will not pay for long term antibiotic treatment and patients have to pay out of pocket which can lead to financial ruin. Funds will be used by my Lyme Doctor to treat his patients that cannot afford it. A 4 month course of IV Antibiotics can cost at least $24,000.
I am back riding my bike like before I got sick, including my first century (100 miles) in over 8 years. This was a true miracle, but now I am back playing ice hockey after 4.5 years!!! I never thought I'd be doing either of these ever again.
The treatment I received helped me, but 4 months of IV was not the entire treatment. A year and a half to rebuild my immune system was also part of this. I do believe if I did not receive treatment in time, that I would not be here right now. It WAS that bad.
On August 16th, 2015, I will be attempting a solo DOUBLE Century Bike Ride (200 miles) in one day and I ask for your support. That is 200 miles of PEDALING, not a motorcycle. 100 miles is grueling enough, but I am atttempting this for a few reasons:
#1) To raise money for chronic lyme disease patients' who cannot afford treatment.
#2) To help raise awareness about this horrible illness
#3) To show people what determination, faith and the right treatment can do.
#4) To start a full blown campaign.
#5) Selfishly, to see if I can do it.
All donations will go into a fund. My doctor and I will discuss who should receive these funds for treatment. A small percentage will go to promotional items, website design, etc. $125, 000 will help 5 people get 4 months of IV antibiotic treatment. As this campaign grows, I would like to help more and more people, but this is a start.
