The Pop Warner Lyman Greyhounds PeeWee team has had a fantastic season this year and they have been invited to participate in the regional playoffs.
Pop Warner, a 501C3 non-profit, has provided our community with youth football and cheerleading programs for over 25 years, committing to the scholastic, athletic and community development of our children.
Many of our families involved have daily challenges in housing, food, clothing and transportation. When that happens, extracurricular activities are the first thing to go. Those of us who are able, including the head coach, have exhausted our resources supplementing with funds for equipment, registration fees and whatever else was needed. Pop Warner Football teaches these boys teamwork and the value of hard work. It develops good character. And Coach Greg requires his team to keep up their grades to stay on the team.
In addition to local efforts such as car washes and gift baskets, we are seeking corporate sponsors who can help fund these boys as they head into the regional playoff games. These games require traveling, food and sometimes lodging expenses.
The cost to participate in regionals is estimated to be $6,000 and if they win and are invited to nationals at Walt Disney World, that cost is estimated at $24,000. This opportunity is exciting and rare for these boys and they have worked many long, hard hours to achieve it.
