Lydia and Sandra's Journey

Lydia and Sandra's Liver Transplant journey
Hello Everyone. In 2008, our mother, Lydia Rendon was diagnosed with non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver. As it turns out, she had Hep C (for who knows how long). My mother has always had great work ethics; she worked as a nurse for over 30 years, That is until mid October of 2017 when her health took a turn for the worse. Her liver was not functioning properly and so the trips to the University Transplant hospital in San Antonio began. She tried getting release to go back to work but the Drs. said she was not well enough so in January her FMLA expired and she had no choice but to retire since her health was not getting any better. The doctors suggested a living liver donor since the list for a transplant was extremely long. My courageous, sister, Sandra, has been evaluated by the transplant team and will be donating up to 60% of her liver to our mom. This has been a very emotional time in our lives as my mom desperately needs this surgery and well my sister is going to be the donor. We have two family members that we truly love (my mom and my sister) that will be getting ready for the transplant surgery. My mom has no income at the time other than my dad's which most goes to paying for health insurance and bills. My sister will have to be out of work for at least 8 weeks; it can be longer but that all depends on the recovery stage. During this time, she will not be receiving a paycheck from her employer since this is an "elective surgery." With back and forth trips to the University Transplant in San Antonio for evaluations, mom getting sick and having to be hospitalized in San Antonio, and now the upcoming transplant, it is a financial stress. My family and I would greatly appreciate any donations and a bunch of prayers. God bless you all and it means the world to us. "It's not what we have in life, but who we have in our life." Thank you!
