Brody's Cornea Transplant

My Newphew, Brody Brewster, lights up the room with his quirky smile and kind heart. Brody was born 23 years ago with Downs Syndrome.
The Brodman lives in Orem, Utah with his mom and younger brother. Brod's dad and step-mom live in Arizona as does his sister (he also has a cute big-brother, sister-in-law and nieces in Southern Utah). Brody has great family support. All of these people love this sweet soul to the moon and back! But we could use some help!
Three months ago Brody's eye got infected. A quick trip to the doctor showed that Brody had keratoconus, a chronic non-inflammatory corneal disorder leading to scarring and progressive stromal thinning. According to the data, this is "an incidence of up to 15% in patients with Down’s syndrome. Acute keratoconus or “corneal hydrops” is a frequent feature in these patients leading to a further decrease in visual acuity and a mostly central corneal opacification."
To state this in terms I can understand, his eye has less than 20% sight. There are blisters on the cornea and he needs a cornea transplant in one eye, and a less invasive procedure in the other eye at a later date.
Brody is scheduled for surgery on February 16, 2015. Most of the expense will be covered by insurance, but the $17,500 should be enough to pay the out of pocket for both procedures.
Brody calls me his "Aunt Mimi" - he smiles and hugs me when I come in the room. The picture above is of my sweet Brodman and his Aunt MiMi. I would love to help ease the burden for his parents and family by raising the funds needed so that their thoughts and worries can focus on getting Brody well and not the finacial side.
All money raised will go directly to my sister to pay for Brody's medical needs. Money will help, but also you prayers and healing thoughts. Thank you!
