Bella Needs A Service Dog

Donation protected
Bella was born with 1p36 Deletion Syndrome. She is missing the tip of her 1st chromosome.  So, she is missing about 21 different genes. She is a 6 year old, gorgeous, curly headed little girl who suffers from Seizures, Heart VSD's, stage 1 Renal Failure, is Non-Verbal and Total Care. Even though she is unable to speak, her smile warms your heart and her giggle is infectious. No one can resist her charms.

Bella is often hospitalized because of her health issues and all of her specialist are at the U of M Hospital. Bella is very fearful of the hospital, even if it's for a check up. From the moment she was born, she has been traumatized. She has been poked and prodded then most adults will ever experience in their life time!

Whenever we go to the hospital, she will have a seizure that night because of the trauma that she has gone through for different visits. When she is hospitalized, the doctors do not speak to her, as they would a regular patient or give them options. They speak to me, and then its up to me to try to get her to understand what is happening. She can not say no, let me think about it, what are my different options, or even a simple 'no'. Bella is also Total Care. What does that mean? She is 6 years old and can not sit, stand, crawl, walk or even feed herself. She is completely dependent on 'us' her parents to meet her every need and wish.

The last time, Bella was hospitalized, she was sick for 3 weeks and in and out of the hospital for 7 days. She was poked, at least 8 times, to get an IV started, and she was poked, at least 10 times, to have blood drawn.  And she was cathed at least 5 times just to try to get a urine sample. How many of you would not have yelled and screamed and had a few choice words for the doctors and nurses? My little girl, cried and had to be held down. After so much trauma, her little body shut down and she withdrew into herself. It's heartbreaking to watch your child 'give up' because they have no say in the matter. She can't even run away.

We, Denny and myself, Ida, feel it is imperative that she get a Service Dog. Something that can be 'Big and Strong', can be her 'Protector',  can go everywhere she goes, 'To give her the extra support' needed to get through whatever Bella needs to. These dogs are not cheap. They must go through vigorous training. They are taught not to respond to any 'outside' interference if it does not pertain to their owner. These dogs are taught not to eat off the floor, to take food from anyone outside the immediate family, or to even chase a squirrel. These pups are trained from the moment they are born with a purpose and a job to do.

Bella's pup, Theena, still has many more months of training until we get her. Once she is delivered to us, she will go everywhere Bella goes. Where does Bella go? Bella loves to shop! What girl doesnt? She loves to go walk around the mall and see all the lights and the busyness of people. She likes to cruise around Costco, Sams and Walmart. ( There can be lots of funny looking people!) Bella goes to school, five days a week. She doesn't always make it everyday, but it is offered. Bella especially loves to go to church. She loves when children and adults alike come up to 'her' to say hi. And then, unfortunately, she must go to the hospital..

We feel, that her dog, Theena, will help give her the 'support', 'comfort' and the 'protectiveness' she needs in order to cope with the situation. Her dog will be her 'blankie'.  Her big-strong and don't mess with me dog!

We we need your help in getting this dog finished in her training and bringing her home. The trainer, is a private indivdual, who is training, Theena (the pup) just for Bella.

Please help support our daughter get a life companion that will bring her happiness and joy. That will give her a silent 'protection' and the 'thought of knowing' that her dog is there just for Bella.
