Old Films Teach Kids New Tricks

Please help us to “bring the past to life” for the children and families of PA's Lehigh Valley! The Lehigh Valley Youth Chorus , a musical ensemble in residence at Northampton Community College, is embarking upon an ambitious project to educate our Young Singers (grades 3-12) and the wider community about the history of American music and classic films of the silent era. Enter the nationally renowned Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra...

The Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra is “the premier American ragtime ensemble,” as hailed by The Washington Post, and has become one of America's leading ensembles dedicated to the preservation and performance of America's first popular music: Ragtime. The PRSO has enthusiastically agreed to include this educational concert in their Spring 2020 Tour of the Northeastern United States, pending the LVYC's ability to raise the funds necessary to make the concert a reality.

The performance, scheduled for 14 March 2020, will be presented by the LVYC in Kopecek Hall's beautiful Lipkin Theatre on NCC's Main Campus in Bethlehem, PA. The first portion will showcase a screening of Charlie Chaplin's first full-length feature film – and a 99-year-old classic of silent cinema – The Kid. As the audience cheers for the “Little Tramp” and boos the “bad guys”, the PRSO's musicians will accompany the film with their own proprietary instrumental score. This will be followed by a concert of Ragtime era music with the PRSO joined onstage by the Young Singers of the Lehigh Valley Youth Chorus. The event promises to be both a highly entertaining evening as well as an incredibly educational opportunity for our Young Singers.

Thank you for your contribution to bring this unique, multi-media event to the Lehigh Valley. For many, this will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to engage in what is becoming a new and exciting way to view some of America's most historic films, accompanied by quintessentially American music. We appreciate your support of the LVYC and this original, exciting performance. PLEASE BE SURE TO SUPPLY YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS IF YOU WISH TO OBTAIN A RECEIPT FOR THIS TAX-DEDUCTIBLE DONATION.

If you would like to make your donation by check, please be sure the check is made out to "NCC" with "HFY-LVYC/PRSO"  on the memo line and mail to the following address:
