Dear friends and family,
We are writing from Puerto Rico. It is our third day on the island and we have encountered conditions we were not prepared for. We have distributed food, money, and water, but there is still no power, no running water, severe structural damage to the homes, and the rain is relentless. Long story short, we need your help. We have identified two specific communities in Florida, PR that are in need of our assistance. Currently, we are asking for money to help the homes of Koko, Liliana, and Veronica.
Koko is a 65 year old woman, living alone, with no roof and a half inch of stagnant water throughout her entire home. She has nowhere to go and is sleeping in these conditions. There is forecast for continuous rainfall over the next week, so we must seal the top of her home immediately. There are no available tarps on the island and we need to overnight them from the mainland tomorrow. This is very expensive. (THIS MISSION ACCOMPLISHED)
Veronica is in a similar situation, but she has two small children and cancer. She is sleeping on the couch and her two children are sleeping on the bed, the only surviving pieces of furniture in their home. FEMA has put her on the priority list, and even with that, the repairs will not begin until December, the approximated earliest date.
Liliana is an elderly women who cannot be in her home at all. The roof as well as the front walls are blown out and she is sleeping on an air mattress at a neighbors home. We must get her home dried out before it is no longer repairable.
We are available for anymore specific details or photos you may request, but in the interest of your time, we will keep this as short as possible, but any curiosities are more than welcome.
This whole situation became very personal, very fast and we ask that you assist in anyway you can. Every dollar helps right now, but in reality, we need to do major reinforcements on their properties, and their neighbors’ properties as well. Our days are endless and we are being continuously guided to a new case. Each and every one is urgent.
