Lutheran Lakeside is a summer camp that offers youth, adults, and families unique experiences to witness the Holy Spirit in action while gaining confidence, learning team building, communication, and problem solving. One of the most important benefits of camp is to belong to a community where you are loved and accepted as a beautifully flawed human. This summer were able to welcome over 20 staff, 30 church leaders, 350 campers and 500 congregational day campers. Each of them was able to witness the Holy Spirit in action and have a unique experience that allowed them to grow in faith, relationships, and community. Participation in outdoor ministry leads to church leaders, increase in confidence and the ability to share a personal story of faith.
At Lakeside, we are continuously working to improve our program and property, so we can offer the best camp experience possible. We are committed to providing a physically, emotionally, and spiritually safe space for campers to explore their personal vocation. We’ve been very successful in growing numbers, improving spaces, providing new and exciting activities and reaching a wider variety of people. Now we just need your help to push camp forward, so we can sustain our ministry.
The camp experience is a mountain top experience that has a life long impact on an individual. This summer we had a visit from 2 women who attended camp in the 60’s. They had not returned since but had never forgotten. They spent hours riding around looking at all the changes and all the things that had stayed the same. They remembered camp songs, silent hike rituals, counselor names and most importantly the presence of the Holy Spirit working in their lives. They testified to the impact camp had on them, and how they were forever grateful for their summers at Lakeside.
Our campers know the importance of camp and hope that it will always be here. During Week 4, we had a 6-year-old boy come into the office with his mom. He had been a day camper during Week 2. With a big smile on his face he laid 3 single dollar bills on the counter and 1 quarter. He proudly stated how he earned the money at a rummage sale and was giving it to camp. When he was asked if he was sure he responded, “Camp is the greatest place on earth and I want it to always be here!”
Currently we are trying to overcome $75,000 worth of capital expenses from 60 years of deferred maintenance and crucial projects including a new hot water heater, flood repairs, and electrical upgrades. We are hopeful that individuals and families will appreciate the importance of the ministry happening at Lakeside and give a gift they can feel good about.
