We are heartbroken to share the loss of our friend and submariner shipmate, Petty Officer Luther Jones, who recently passed away from kidney failure brought on by cancer.

Luther proudly served our Nation beneath the sea, but like so many Veterans, the transition to civilian life was not easy. He struggled with alcoholism, which created distance within his family and made daily life extremely difficult. Despite the support and care offered by those around him over the years, Luther was unable to overcome the disease that ultimately kept him from the stability and peace he deserved.

What made Luther special was his heart—he was loyal to his shipmates, proud of his service, and, above all, loved his son deeply. Today, that son, just 16 years old, carries on his father’s legacy.

Unfortunately, Luther did not have life insurance and left behind no financial resources. His family is now faced with not only the grief of losing him but also the challenge of covering funeral, cremation, and memorial expenses. We want to ensure Luther is honored properly for his service to this great Country, and we have set up a GoFundMe to help cover these costs. Any funds raised beyond the memorial expenses will go directly toward supporting his son’s future.
