Lu's Breast Cancer Expense Fund

THE BATTLE BEGINS! My sister, Lugene (Lu) Smith, was diagnosed in May with a rare type of breast cancer, Invasive Lobular Carcinoma, Stage 3 with ER+ (estrogen), PR+ (progesterone) and Her2 negative receptors. She has a 7-11 cm mass that was undetected with preventative screening. It was only detected when it became externally visible.
Lu loves her job, processing assistance for the elderly and disabled, and has high hopes of maintaining her position. She does have some PTO but it won't be enough to last through her projected treatment plan.
She has always been extremely independent, and has never asked for financial assistance, even from family, so asking for help is not in her nature.
She will have a bilateral mastectomy this month, followed by 5 months of chemo, 5 weeks of radiation, and 5 years of hormone therapy. Due to the risks of radiation during healing, she will have a second surgery for reconstruction when chemo and radiation treatments have been completed.
Medical bills are already coming in for her lumpectomy and a lot of diagnostic testing. Even with insurance, expenses will be crippling and could be financially devastating. Any donation, large or small, would be heartfelt and greatly appreciated. Any money raised here will help relieve the stress of mounting medical bills and living expenses.
