Lung Transplant for Gwen Livingston

Three years ago Gwen was diagnosed with COPD. Her illness has been getting worse since, and in April 2017 it was recommended by her doctor that she begin testing to determine if she is eligible for a lung transplant. Fast forward eight months and she has been put on the transplant list.
Gwen will have to relocate to Edmonton first for her physical therapy preparation for 4 weeks to make sure she is in her best physical health for the transplant itself. After that, they will return to Calgary to wait for the call for a transplant. Following the surgery, Gwen will remain in the hospital for at least 3 months, God willing she heals quickly and will have to return to Edmonton once a month for testing and follow-up for the following 6 months.
Although the University of Alberta Hospital does offer hostels/ housing to accommodate transplant patients for the 4 weeks of therapy and duration of her recovery, this will be an out of pocket expense, as it is not covered by her insurance. The additional medical equipment required for self-monitoring when she is released is also not covered by insurance and there will be unforeseen expenses, as well.
Gwen has been off on disability for the past year and David has been solely taking care of her so he is not able to work either.
We ask for your help during this time to help relieve their financial burden. This journey has been long and tiresome, but they are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
