Luna Bear's Surgery Fund

Donation protected
Tonight the unthinkable happened.  We were outside and a stray dog (intact, no collar) was in front of our house.  Sam called me outside to look at the dog and see if we could find out where he was from.  Luna is usually outside with us and stays with us.  But she got excited tonight when she saw the stray and tried to play with him.  He became scared and booked it across Orleans Street.  Luna took off after him.

The stray dog made it safely across the street.  Unfortunately, Luna was not so lucky.  She was hit by an oncoming car and crumpled into the street.

We rushed her to the Pet+ER in Towson (where I work for those of you who may not be aware) where she was immediately taken to the back and the team started to work on her.

After some initial diagnostics, we know that Luna has lung contusions, a broken femur, and a small amount of free fluid in her abdomen (which could be indicative of internal bleeding).  Her spay incision from two weeks ago split open but it looks like that is just a superficial wound luckily.

Tonight the ER team will monitor her.   She will be in oxygen overnight (at the very least) because of the head trauma and lung contusions.  She will be rechecked for accumulating fluid in her abdomen and other potential complications.  Tomorrow she will have a surgery consultation for her broken femur.   As long as she is stable, she will have surgery for her broken leg as soon as possible.

Sam and I are getting married on the 25th of August and instead of wedding gifts, we only want donations for Luna's care.  We just need our little Luney Bear to be okay.

Some disclosure (because I feel like I need to)  -- I'm lucky that I work in this field and that I receive discounts for some of these services, but it will still be a strain on us financially.  For most people, something like this could run $5000 to $8000 easy.  I feel for these people and I hope they have supportive, caring people around them.  We're hoping that this will cover most of Luney's surgery bill, but we may need to update it once we know more details.

Thank you to the entire Towson Pet+ER staff who showed such compassion and skill during such an emotional time and our friends and family who reached out and offered hugs and emotional support.  We love all of you.
