LumenKids is a youth development organization focusing on empowering youth experientially through adventure, community leadership and conscious living. Every year we host a large holiday fundraiser & celebration but this year we wanted to do something different and focus on kids giving back.
The Chicago winter is quickly approaching and it can be a very difficult time for people struggling with homelessness. In lieu of our celebration this year, we set a goal to pack and distribute 100 homeless care packages to individuals in Evanston and the greater Chicago area. Each package will include the following items:
1. Winter accessories (hat, gloves, hand warmers)
2. Toothbrush/toothpaste/floss
3. Water bottle
4. Personal hygiene (lip balm/chapstick, deodorant, nail clippers, comb/brush)
5. Tissues
6. Wet wipes
7. Chewable multi-vitamin
8. First-aid kit (band-aids, antiseptic, emergen-C)
9. Wool Socks
10. Beef Jerky/dried fruit/Mints/Chocolate
11. Maxi pads (women bags only)
12. Ventra transit card
13. Local resources contact list
Each bag will cost $10-12. 100% of in-kind donations and all funds received will go towards care packages. Youth in our program and partnering programs will help to organize and pack care packages. In partnership with area shelters, we will distribute packages safely and directly to those most in need.
