Lulu's Recovery Fund
Lulu is a lover. She just hasn't seen a lot of lately. Well, until now.
Lulu showed up in my driveway on Monday, February 25th with bleeding eyes (literally), malnourished and beaten up body and a weakened spirit. She was as gentle as butterfly landing on your hand and she immediately stole my heart.
She's being treated at the Village Vets where we know nothing about her health history, but she's got a fight ahead of her. In addition to being extremely malnourished (needs to gain at least 15-20 lbs), she tested positive for heart worm, a quarter of her tail has been chewed raw, her eyes are infected, she has numerous wounds on her entire body and she had stitches (now removed) in her abdomen that are thought to have been there for more than a year. The good news "“ skin scrapes showed negative for mites and her wounds are responding to antibiotics.
If you look at her face, eyes and body, you'll notice skin depigmentation that could likely be the result of an auto-immune deficiency. Blood panels next week will show more. In the meantime, Lulu needs assistance. You see, she was micro chipped and her owners were contacted (she had been reported missing a year ago). Sadly, the owners chose not to respond to any of the messages and as far as Lulu is concerned are a thing of the past "“ for the best! Now to get her better, find her a foster/forever home.
Medical expenses include heartworm treatment, x-rays, blood panels, hospitalization and prescription meds. To cover these costs (based on current diagnoses:.fingers crossed nothing else will be found), we're on a mission to raise $1300. Lulu (like Rocky, as some of you may remember) will come with her own trust fund once her forever home is found (provided any funds remain).
TLC is a priority! The Village Vets in Lilburn are loving and caring for her during the week while giving her the necessary medical care. I was fortunate enough to spend the day with her on Friday and find her a place to stay over the weekend (weekends seem to be easier for people to take in an extra fur kid). She goes back to Village Vets on Monday for more treatment and tests.
After spending time with this baby, I can tell you that Lulu is a gentle soul with a great spirit. She is house trained, knows some commands, is pretty good on a leash, good with kids, good with other dogs, good with cats, smart as a whip and loves a good snuggle. It's amazing that after being on her own for a year that she seems to have retained her manners and interaction skills. This girl is a gem. You'll fall in love.
