On November 14th, our beautiful mom, Lucy Duran, suffered a massive ischemic stroke out of the largest cerebral artery in her brain. This left her with left-sided paralysis, left eye blindness, and partial loss of facial control. The following day after her stroke, the neurologist spoke with us and gave us the unfortunate news that it was unlikely for her to have a full recovery due to the size of the stroke. However, she is proving doctors wrong and is improving leaps and bounds! With that said, she still has a long road ahead of her with lots of rehabilitation therapy to complete.
Over the last several years, she has dealt with her fair share of health challenges, intensifying over the last year. Due to her recent health challenges, she hasn't been able to work, nor maintain her health insurance coverage she had for many years. She is experiencing all of this with no health insurance at all. This has put her in quite the financial bind. With the rapidly accruing medical costs, along with the continued therapy she needs to receive, the costs are steep. Not only that, she is not in a position to afford even basic bills, like her cell phone. We are rallying together as a family to help in covering these costs, but the amount is becoming too costly to sustain with our family alone.
We have set up this GoFundMe to help cover her stacking medical bills, physical and occupational therapy sessions, medications, and some of her basic bills (like her cell phone).
Mama Luc has had many panic attacks with the reality of what is going on. She has felt stressed with the unresolved underlying cause to all of this, and is terrified of this happening again. She is now working with a cardiologist and stroke neurologist to get to the bottom of this. The care and concern she has already received from them has put her at ease. The last thing we want is her stressing over the financial aspect of all of this, and we believe her focus should solely be on healing.
Our mom is eager to get back to her previous stroke state with answers, and better health than ever. She has improved dramatically, but still has no use or movement in her left arm or hand. She has a fighter spirit, and is completely determined to manifest a full recovery. She is excited to start driving again, interacting with her grandchildren in the way she always has, and gaining full independence back. We are so hopeful she will have a FULL RECOVERY, and cannot wait! Anything you can do to help offset the steep costs would be appreciated more than you could ever know.
