Lucy Corbett’s MS Fundraiser

Donation protected

Hi everyone,

I have created this fundraiser for a dear friend of mine.

Lucy Corbett is a 26 year old women from Kiama who is suffering from MS and multiple other diseases. Lucy, her husband and her family spend an average of 20k per year on medical bills. Please continue to read Lucy’s story bellow and if you can help in any way, it is most appreciated.

In 2014 Lucy was diagnosed with MS standing for Multiple Sclerosis, during her first year of university.

Multiple sclerosis is a condition of the central nervous system, interfering with nerve impulses within the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves.

Lucy suffers the most from, leg paralysis, muscle and skeletal pain, memory loss and fatigue.

During this year Lucy was also diagnosed with Endometriosis and Adenomyosis.

Endometriosis can cause the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes or bowel to stick to each other at points called ‘adhesions’, which as you may imagine, are extremely painful.

In 2015 Lucy was diagnosed with Pudendal Neuralgia which causes pelvic and thigh pain.

Luce has described this pain as hot needles.

Lucy has undergone many spinal surgeries and stimulators, which have came with months of recovery and rehabilitation.

Lucy now receives injections every 3 months to help manage.

Then in 2017 Lucy was diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia. Trigeminal Neuralgia is a disorder of a nerve at the side of the head, called the trigeminal nerve. This condition causes intense, stabbing or electric shock-like pain in the lips, eyes, nose, scalp, forehead and jaw which is extremely painful.

Lucy underwent a microvascular decompression of her left trigeminal nerve which meant releasing abnormal compression of her cranial nerve in which was causing many of these horrific symptoms.

This is a very rare disease and otherwise known as the ‘Suicide Disease’. This is because of this characteristic excruciating pain, many people tend to feel that it is impossible for them to live with it.

Just 2 short months later Lucy became aware that this disease was beginning to affect her right side also.

One year later Lucy had a nerve block put through her face to help numb her pain and manage her symptoms, to which Lucy caught meningitis.

In 2018 Lucy was then diagnosed with May-Thurner Syndrome.

May Thurner Syndrome can make it difficult for blood to circulate back to your heart thus causing various symptoms such as pelvic and thigh pain.

Each fortnight Lucy will suffer from at least one if not more ‘relapses’ resulting in hospitalisation. Each relapse causes severe pain, weakness, short of breath, fatigue, nausea, and the inability to move.

Each relapse may be caused by various things such as too much physical movement, stress, the wind simply blowing in her face may cause her Trigeminal Neuralgia to flare up, or even touching.

Whilst Lucy and Jordan already knew conceiving a child would be hard they were told their fertility specialist would cost $10,000 for the first round alone, they were then told this may only be 40% effective and their chances of conceiving will then reduce with every round.

During their IVF journey Lucy is unable to take any pain medication nor can she continue with her medication to control her MS symptoms. They say motherhood is the ultimate selfless sacrifice which makes Lucy no exception.

Over the years Lucy has in total had 12 major surgeries, 13-15 minimally invasive procedures including injections, and on average spends around $20,000 on medical bills and medication each year.

To help try to cover these costs and the inability to work in a full time position Lucy started her very own business making candles called Olor.

We understand we may not be able to take away Lucy’s pain, however we are hopeful that as a community we may be able to help ease any financial worries they may face.

Please help us give Lucy and Jordan some financial aid, all donations are most appreciated no matter how big or small.

We understand this year has been stressful and financially difficult for many throughout this pandemic so we truly thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
