Hi my name is Paula McMahon and I am the mom of a wonderful boy named Lucky McMahon who is 5 years old.
Short story Lucky is a wonderful 5 year old who was born at 33 weeks and born with severe Hydrocepulas and a chiari malformation and a ton of other ailments like failure to thrive, sleep apnea, global delays, eatting issues and the list goes on. He’s had 15 surgeries that include a shunt that failed after a week of being placed and after 60 days in the NICU he had his current shunt system. When he was 3 he had a chiari decompression to help it, but unfortunately it cause it to slump and caused more issues, with that being said his current neurosurgeon did surgery on his head to see if moving his forehead out would help but it did not and now there’s nothing else they can do for him.
Anyways, this kinda explains that lucky is a medically complex child.
I am sorry, I am not good at words or putting them down on paper but I wanted to cover lucky and how complex he is.
The reason for this Gofundme is for his dental work. He has a medical card and well with his dental its so hard to find a dr who takes it and actually isn’t afraid to do work. I started at my own dentist who i pay out of my pocket for and he takes care of Luckys teeth until he saw some cavities, well he referred lucky to another dentist and well that dentist takes the medical card but no from my county. Then I was referred me to another dentist in Chicago that takes the medical card, well thats a 3 hr drive for me but I went but that was a mess, they checked him out saying he has 8 cavities and 2 crowns and 1 tooth pulled, no xrays to see how bad. Then i was informed that the anathegiologist wasn’t comfortable doing the procedure since he has to be put to sleep for all this work. So, we were back to square one again on finding a dentist.
So, yesterday I took him to a pediatric dentist and he took xrays and examined him. Then he explained everything that is wrong with his teeth. He has a bad infection, he needs 3 teeth pulled, he needs 2 crowns and has 15 cavities. I’m looking and listening to this and i am floored and all theses feelings came to me like when they told me he might not survive, yes i know theses are just teeth but the flash back is real. Then they gave me a bill on what its going to cost over 4 thousand dollars and i have to have it by April 3, 2 weeks before surgery.
This little boy has gone through so much :( We just need a little help and anything will help.
