Fundraising for Salama School for the blind Mukono and Gombe General Hospital children’s ward
My name is Peninah Wampamba, Miss Uganda UK 2018 and also a student paediatric nurse. As the reigning queen, I will be making a charity trip to Uganda in March 2019 hence why I am asking you to join hands with me and the team as we raise money that will go towards Salama School of the Blind and Gombe Hospital children’s ward.
The money raised will be split evenly between the two organisations all of which help children and young people; which was the focus of my Miss Uganda UK Campaign.
Target date: February 2019
1). Salama School for the blind Mukono This is one of very few schools in Uganda with only blind pupils. The team spoke to the School and asked them what the appropriate items would be to take. Some of the items they requested are: medical sunglasses, Sanitary pads, Blankets, BedSheets, Clothes(age of 8-15years),Mattresses and Braille Machines to facilitate learning. The campaign is composed of carrying out the collection of these items and shipping them to Uganda. The money raised will be used to pay for shipping and purchase items that we don't manage to collect.
2). Gombe General Hospital Paediatric Ward Gomba was home for my late grandfather’s whose hard-work and love for me lives on. As the village I was representing in my campaign, it is only right that I go back to my roots and give back.
Serving a population of 250,000 ,the hospital receives an average of 180 patients daily and has 100 beds. It supervises 21 health centres, receives around 1200 referrals and refers 200 cases to National referral hospitals each year.
