Welcome to the Lucille Martins Fund, created to assist the Martins family with proper wake and funeral arrangements for Lucille.
For those of you who do not know, in May of 2017 Lucille was diagnosed with bile duct and liver cancer. She has been in and out of hospitals and has undergone various procedures for the past few months. The doctors just informed her family that they have run out of options and that her cancer is terminal. The new goal is to make her as comfortable as possible with the time that she has left.
Lucille is a woman who has dedicated her life to children, and not just her own. She and her late husband, Roulino Martins, dreamed of having six children. They had two sons, but their hope for a big family was taken away when he died in 1991. Although most would have accepted this fate, Lucille was determined to have four more children. She started as a foster parent for DSS and changed the lives of 150 sick children. Over the years she adopted four of them; dedicating her life to give them the love they desperately needed. Not only did she raise six children on her own, she taught children with special needs at the Lincoln Elementary School in Melrose, MA.
Lucille's children have been doing all they can to give back to the fabulous woman they owe their lives to. Unfortunately, the wake and funeral expenses are not something they can afford on their own and they ask humbly that in lieu flowers, anyone who is able to help please consider donating to this fund.
Lucille will be going home with hospice on Monday, July 31st. Anyone who would like to come say their goodbyes to the woman who touched more lives than we can count is more than welcome to do so. Please contact Felicia Martins (tagged in this post) for any additional information.
