Lucie Yang Memorial Bench

Over the past year, many of us have been thinking of ways to honor Lucie.  In consultation with Lucie’s sister, Lynda, we have decided to dedicate a garden bench in Lucie's memory in the San Francisco Botanical Garden in Golden Gate Park:  https://www.sfbotanicalgarden.org/support/benches.html  The garden covers about 55 acres in the middle of San Francisco and is close to the Sunset neighborhood where Lucie lived when she was a student at UCSF.  Lucie enjoyed spending time in the garden, such as happily feeding the ducks and ducklings in the pond, reading under the shade of the trees and exploring hidden nooks in the garden.  The bench will either overlook the Water Fowl Pond or be placed in the Zellerbach Garden of Perennials near the Moon Viewing Garden - areas of the garden that she particularly enjoyed.  

All donations will go towards sponsoring the bench in Lucie's memory, and our hope is to raise $25,000 towards a 30-year sponsorship.  Any contributions would be much appreciated.  

We are working towards an installation of the bench a few months from now, and will provide updates.  Once the bench is installed, we plan to organize a get-together in San Francisco to dedicate the bench in memory of Lucie.  We hope to see many of you at that event.

Joanne Kwan, the campaign organizer, lives in San Francisco.  She has been friends with Lucie Yang since 1996 when they started grad school together at the University of California, San Francisco.  All funds will be used to support the memorial bench at the San Francisco Botanical Garden in honor of Lucie Yang.  Lynda, Lucie's sister, will be the named sponsor of the bench.  Funds will be withdrawn by Joanne and then sent by check directly to the SF Botanical Garden Society.   See https://www.sfbotanicalgarden.org/support/benches.html for additional information.
