Hola!, mi nombre es Luciano!, tengo 6 meses de edad, y nací en una familia de dos hermanos (Samu, de 15 años y Juli, de 6 años), mi mami y mi papi. Desde que nací cada día ha sido una aventura. Mi alimentación (al parecer) era excelente! Estaba gordito y comía de acuerdo a mis horarios y las cantidades que debía.
Hace dos meses me sentí muy enfermo y mis papis me llevaron a un hospital, allí dijeron que tenía neumonía y estuve 13 largos días internado junto a mi mamita y mi papito; cuando regresé a casa parecía que todo había terminado, pero era solo el comienzo de una y difícil aventura, para mí y toda mi familia.
Ocho días después de regresar a casa me sentí enfermo de nuevo y me llevaron a dos hospitales, en ninguno supieron que tenía! Estábamos muy asustados, así que vinimos al hospital Vozandes (Quito-Ecuador), después de muchos exámenes y de entrar a quirófano 2 veces, los doctores me diagnosticaron reflujo, lo que hace que la comidita se regrese a mi nariz y boca; el problema más grave es que cuando mi comidita bajaba a mi estómago de nuevo, se iba a mis pulmoncitos. Los doctores y mis papis decidieron hacerme una cirugía para cerrar la boquita de mi estómago (procedimiento Nissen) y también ayudar a que mi comidita baje a mi intestino sin problemas (piloromiotomia); parecía que con esas cirugías ya todo iba a mejorar, pero después en otro examen (post cirugía) los doctores notaron que cuando comía mi glotis no se cerraba y de nuevo mi comidita se iba a mis pulmones, así que decidieron dejar de darme de comer y me hicieron otra cirugía para alimentarme directamente por mi estomaguito (gastrostomía) a los pocos días de la última cirugía la vía que me pusieron se infectó (infección hospitalaria) y me llevaron a cuidados intensivos, lugar que ya conocía por los procedimientos anteriores.
Ahora mami y yo estamos aprendiendo a asimilar que mi comida entrará directamente a mi estómago y estamos con todas las fuerzas intentando adaptarnos a este nuevo estilo de vida que esperamos no se prolongue por mucho tiempo. El día de hoy continuamos hospitalizados esperando que la infección hospitalaria y mis pulmones se recuperen.
Mi mamita, mi papi y yo, hemos pasado ya casi 60 días en hospitales, aún no tenemos una fecha para poder regresar a casa a ver mis hermanitos, pero tenemos un problema, mis papis ahora ya no pueden cubrir la deuda con el hospital porque estuve varios días en cuidados intensivos y también he ingresado 5 veces a quirófano, adicional a esto vamos a requerir leche especial y terapias para fortalecer mi deglución y así un día empezar a disfrutar de los sabores y dejar de alimentarme por medio de una sonda.
La cuenta supera ya los 30.000$, y aún no hay un diagnóstico ni cuánto tiempo más debemos pasar en el hospital y es por esto que acudo a sus corazones solidarios para solventar esta deuda.

Hi! My name is Luciano, I’m six months old and have two older brothers, Samu is fifteen and Julian is six. Every day has been an adventure. Initially, it seemed I was perfectly healthy and eating well.
Unfortunately two months ago I became very ill, my parents took me to the hospital where I was diagnosed with pneumonia and admitted for thirteen days. Finally, I returned home and everything seemed back to normal, sadly it was the beginning of a long and difficult road for my family and I. Only eight days later, I became sick once more and was taken to two hospitals, neither of which could figure out what was wrong with me. I was very scared and was finally admitted to Hospital Vozandes (Quito, Ecuador), after enduring many exams and two visits to the operating room I was diagnosed with Gastroesophageal Reflux, which means that when everything I eat or drink goes back up to my nose and mouth, but more critically, it also goes into my lungs.
My parents and doctors decided to perform a Nissen surgical procedure to close the opening of my stomach and to help the food go into my intestine (Pyloromyotomy), it seemed that the problem had been resolved but when the doctors performed post-op exams they discovered that my glottis wasn't closing and so the food would still go into my lungs. They decided to stop feeding me like normal and to feed me nutrients directly into my stomach through a Gastronomy feeding tube. Shortly thereafter, I suffered an infection while still in the hospital that sent me to the Intensive Care Unit. Now my mom and I are working hard to acclimate to this new way of feeding me our new way of life. We are still in the hospital, as I am still recuperating from infection and damage to my lungs.
My parents and I have been in the hospital for 60 days and are hopeful to be able to go back home soon to see my brothers and my dog. Unfortunately, due to my five visits to the OR and many days in ICU, my parents are unable to pay all of the hospital bills on their own. Now I also need a special type of milk to be fed through my G-tube and special therapy to help me not forget to swallow. I hope to someday be able to enjoy eating again and get to taste flavors again.
Our hospital bill is over $30,000.00, there is still no diagnosis or how much more time we must spend in the hospital, and I would like to ask you if you can and are so moved to help my parents and me by donating what you can and sharing my story. My family and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
